Default Trapper Builds

i know this subforum is for PvE but i think there would be a better response here than in the general PvP forum, anyways, i'm just looking for some good trapper builds and also what secondary profession would benefit a trapper the most? Also, is there a way to change your secondary profession? Thanks.

Which area do you plan to lay your traps?

I don't do PvP, but I would suggest a R/Me. Uninteruptable ranger placing traps.

Some people may use Spike Trap (e), others may use Oath Shot (e) (to recharge your traps), a few may end up using Trapper's Focus(e).

Mesmers have Mantra of Resolve and Mantra of Resolve, depending on if you want your elites to have ST or OS, if not then TF is better for you.

Hope this helps.

If you want a more versitle trapper that can handle combat situations without the energy issues of a R/Me, try a ritualist secondary. The "Tranquil Trapper" build on guildwiki is a good starting point, but the build can be refined a great deal to fit your playing style.

I use a variation of the tranquil trapper to great effect in Ft. Aspenwood. A full set of traps can take out the Amber Miners or gate guards quite quickly. If you are playing Kurzick, they a good defensive tools as well.

What kind of trapping are you planning to do? I mean: what kind of team are you willing to join? There is a huge difference between VIP trappers, martyr trappers etc.

I personally like to Barrage Trap when doing PvP and PvE.

Barrage
Whirling Defense
Barb Trap
Dust Trap
Fire Trap
Serpents Quickness
Troll Unguent
Rebirth

Barrage and whirling defense still allows me to be offensive/defensive while inbetween trapping cycles. And those three traps form the bulk of all damage dealt to foes anyways. And while not as fast as an Oath Shot. Serpents Quickness is a pretty reliable way to get your traps recharged.

One thing to keep in mind is to make sure your traps aren't placed one on top of the other. That is one thing newer trappers make the mistake of doing. Place a trap and move a little in any direction. This makes sure that enemies can't skirt around the trigger area of the traps, because once one goes off they usually run right into the others trying to escape the area of affect damage. Hope that helps somewhat.

I've been working on a "Suicide Bomber" trapper with my R/E... don't have the actuals here but it goes like:

WS 10ish
BM 10ish
EXP 10ish
Fire Magic 10ish

flame trap
barb trap
viper trap
eoe
serpents quickness
double dragon (elite)
inferno
flare

It works best with a good puller to bring the critters to me and all of the traps in the same place; IF it's timed right:

the first DD hits when the trap goes off;
3/4 of a second later the inferno hits,
a quarter second after that the second half of DD hits...

those that survive don't go far untill the MASSIVE (10+) degen finally kills 'em off. Downside is that if any little thing goes wrong...I'm screwed.

I like a Oath Shot trapper for PvE.

1.) Barbed
2.) Flame
3.) Dust
4.) Distortion/Whirling Defense
5.) Throw Dirt
6.) Oath Shot
7.) Rez Sig
8.) Optional (usually Heal Spring)

But I always miss Spike Trap...
